Director of AI

US Remote (EST/CST preference)

$225-275k base + 20% bonus (no equity)

We're partnering with a global travel management organization that is making a significant investment in AI and is looking for a Director of AI to lead the next stage of that journey.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building and scaling agentic AI across the business, from internal productivity and workflow automation through to customer facing AI products.

You'll own the AI roadmap, technical architecture, team, vendor strategy, governance, and budget, while staying close enough to the technology to guide design and implementation decisions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Define and deliver the agentic AI strategy across the organization
  • Build the frameworks and architecture that intelligent agents operate within, including tool access, context management, control flow, guardrails, and error handling
  • Set standards around MCP, A2A, RAG, evaluation, and production readiness
  • Build AI into customer facing products and operational workflows
  • Drive internal productivity through copilots, automation, and AI enabled tools
  • Own model strategy, including provider selection, model routing, self-hosting, and inference cost
  • Lead AI governance, security, privacy, and regulatory readiness
  • Build and lead a global team of full time and contract engineers
  • Own vendor relationships and make build versus buy decisions

What We're Looking For

  • Strong background in software engineering, AI engineering, machine learning, or applied AI
  • Hands on experience building and shipping production AI systems, including agentic applications
  • Strong understanding of RAG, MCP, A2A, model orchestration, evaluation, and agent security
  • Experience leading technical teams and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Strong engineering fundamentals across architecture, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and production systems
  • Good understanding of the current model landscape across frontier and open weight models
  • Experience working with enterprise governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and AI regulation
  • Comfortable balancing strategy with hands on technical involvement

Nice to Have

  • Experience building ML models beyond API based applications
  • Background in Data Science or Machine Learning
  • Experience in travel, hospitality, logistics, or another operationally complex industry
  • Experience with workflow automation platforms such as n8n
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 42001 or EU AI Act readiness
  • Experience running AI systems in multi-tenant, customer facing environments
