Director of Quality Engineering
Compensation: $245,000-$280,000 Base + Bonus + Full Benefits/401(k)
Location: Fully Remote
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of a top-tier, $17B+ enterprise organization undergoing a massive digital transformation. Backed by top-down executive sponsorship and high-profile partnerships with industry leaders like OpenAI, Google, and McKinsey, this company is actively modernizing its entire digital ecosystem.
This is a new leadership position designed for a builder. The organization currently operates a mature, legacy QA model-1 QA Manager and 15-20 manual testers supporting 25 development teams-with zero existing SDET capability.
You are being brought in to take a “block of clay” and reshape the entire function. Your goal is to construct a modern, automation-first Quality Engineering function from scratch, introduce SDET capabilities, embed test automation into CI/CD pipelines, and ultimately lead the shift toward
intent-based, agentic testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Build & Transform: Modernize quality practices across the enterprise, transitioning from manual QA to a lean, technical, automation-first Quality Engineering model.
- Architecture & Frameworks: Design and implement scalable test automation frameworks across API, UI, integration, regression, performance, and end-to-end testing (leveraging tools like Playwright, Maestro, etc.).
- CI/CD Integration: Embed automated testing, quality gates, and release-readiness standards directly into developer workflows and deployment pipelines.
- AI & Agentic Vision: Partner with AI Architecture and Foundation teams to build evaluation practices for AI-enabled systems-pioneering next-generation, agentic testing models.
- Team Leadership & Transition: Own the existing manual QA organization and carefully manage the multi-year transition into a leaner, technical team of developer-adjacent SDETs.
What We Are Looking For
- 15+ Years of Tech Experience: Extensive background in software quality engineering, test automation, and software delivery, with 7+ years in QA/Engineering leadership.
- Proven Builder Track Record: Demonstrated success building or scaling test automation capabilities from the ground up where little to no automation previously existed.
- Technical Depth: Deep expertise in modern automation frameworks, CI/CD integration, API/UI testing, and developer-adjacent QA (SDET methodology).
- Forward-Thinking Mindset: Exposure to or a strong point of view on AI-assisted testing, intelligent test generation, and agentic/intent-based testing frameworks.
- Change Leadership: The empathy and strategic clarity required to guide a traditional QA team through an organizational transition toward modern engineering standards.
Why Apply?
- True Blank Canvas: You aren’t maintaining someone else’s system-you get to architect the QE function, select the tooling, and build the strategy from scratch.
- Bleeding-Edge AI Strategy: Direct visibility and executive backing to integrate cutting-edge AI and agentic testing directly into the core engineering engine.
- Massive Real-World Impact: Build software and quality systems that directly touch millions of real users every single day.
