Senior Platform Architect
$165,000 - $190,000
Hybrid 3-4 days/week onsite

Overview

A growing technology and professional services organization is seeking a Senior Platform Architect to define and lead the technical vision for enterprise digital platforms. This role is responsible for establishing cloud, application, integration, and data architecture standards while partnering closely with engineering teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, cost-effective, and operationally resilient.
The ideal candidate has successfully led the architecture of large-scale production environments, understands the tradeoffs required to support high user volumes and complex workloads, and can demonstrate experience guiding platforms from initial design through ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the target-state architecture across cloud, application, data, and integration domains.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable cloud environments using modern landing zone strategies, network segmentation, private connectivity, governance controls, and industry-recognized architecture frameworks.
  • Define API, interoperability, and integration standards across distributed systems, including event-driven architectures and enterprise messaging platforms.
  • Establish data architecture patterns supporting both operational and analytical workloads using cloud-native storage, relational databases, and large-scale analytics platforms.
  • Define and govern non-functional requirements including system availability, performance targets, recovery objectives, throughput expectations, and cost efficiency metrics.
  • Ensure architectural decisions align with security, compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead architecture reviews, resolve technical design conflicts, and provide implementation guidance to engineering teams.
  • Drive observability, monitoring, incident readiness, and post-incident architectural improvements.
  • Produce architecture documentation, decision records, diagrams, and technical standards for stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Advise leadership on platform investments, technology selection, cost optimization, and build-versus-buy decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, GIS, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in platform architecture, solution architecture, or large-scale systems design.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the lead architect for production systems supporting large user populations or other highly available, mission-critical environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure, including:
    • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
    • App Service
    • Azure Functions
    • Microsoft Entra ID
    • Networking, storage, and managed data services
  • Experience designing API and integration architectures, including authentication, versioning, contract management, and backward compatibility strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture principles, including modeling, partitioning, governance, and access control.
  • Experience establishing architectural standards, governance processes, and secure scalable design practices.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology strategy, architecture decisions, and implementation guidance.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with experience presenting architectural recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating within regulated government or highly compliant cloud environments.
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting geospatial or location-based technology platforms and interoperable service standards.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code expertise using Terraform or Bicep.
  • Experience building CI/CD practices using platforms such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Proven record of leading post-incident reviews and driving platform improvements.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and developing organizational architecture practices.
