Principal Engineer, Enterprise Data Integration
Life Sciences | Informatica IDMC | Enterprise Data Architecture
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to come in as the first internal hire on a data team being built from the ground up at an established life sciences company. This is not a role for someone who executes within a defined system - it is a role for someone who defines the system.
As Enterprise Data Integration Leader, you will own the architecture, strategy, and delivery of enterprise-scale data integration across business units. You will be the thought leader who sets the integration lifecycle, establishes security and governance best practices, manages external vendors and development teams, and translates complex technical decisions into clear direction for business and executive stakeholders.
If you have deep Informatica IDMC expertise, have operated at true enterprise scale in pharma or life sciences, and have the leadership presence to influence without authority - this was built for you.
What You Will Own
Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Define and own the enterprise data integration architecture across all business units
- Establish the integration lifecycle - from design standards and development practices through deployment, monitoring, and retirement
- Set security best practices for data integration, including access controls, data masking, and compliance alignment in regulated life sciences environments
- Evaluate and recommend tooling, platforms, and integration patterns with a long-term perspective
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert and technical authority on Informatica IDMC and the broader integration ecosystem
Integration Delivery
- Design and oversee the build of enterprise-grade data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and data transformation frameworks
- Ensure data integration solutions meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements at enterprise scale
- Work across business units to align integration approaches, reduce duplication, and build reusable assets
- Drive adoption of modern data integration patterns and tooling across the organization
What We're Looking For
Required
- Informatica IDMC - deep, hands-on expertise; this is non-negotiable
- Life sciences or pharma background - experience operating in regulated, compliance-sensitive data environments
- Enterprise-scale data integration experience - you have designed and delivered integration solutions at true enterprise scale, not departmental projects
- Vendor management experience - managing external development partners, holding vendors accountable, resolving issues
- End-to-end integration thought leadership - you don't just build pipelines; you define how integration should be done across an organization
- Cross-functional collaboration skills - you have worked across business units and earned the trust of both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Player-coach mentality - equally comfortable setting architectural direction and rolling up your sleeves to solve a hard problem
- Strong communication skills - you can present integration strategy to an executive audience and explain a technical tradeoff to a business analyst
Technical Stack
- Informatica IDMC - primary and required platform
- Snowflake (or equivalent cloud data platform - Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift)
- MuleSoft or Fivetran - experience with complementary integration platforms a strong plus
- dbt - for data transformation and modeling within the integration stack
- BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker) - helpful but not required
