This is an opportunity to lead a growing Data Research function within a scaling technology business. You will combine strategic leadership with hands-on statistical and data expertise, shaping how novel data sources are discovered, evaluated and transformed into commercially valuable insights.

The Role
As Director of Data Research, you will set the technical direction for the function while leading and developing a growing team.
- Define and execute the data research strategy alongside senior technology and strategy stakeholders.
- Lead complex, open-ended research projects from hypothesis through to evidence-based recommendations.
- Establish rigorous standards for evaluating new datasets, improving accuracy, quality and speed.
- Develop approaches for assessing the commercial value of new data sources and supporting purchasing decisions.

Your Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial or research experience across data science, statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Deep knowledge of statistical analysis, data modelling, feature engineering and messy real-world datasets.
- Strong Python and SQL capability, with the technical depth to provide meaningful oversight of complex work.
- Experience defining hypotheses and leading ambiguous research projects through to clear conclusions.
- Demonstrable experience leading and developing technical teams.
- Strong commercial judgement when assessing the costs, benefits and potential value of datasets.
- Ability to communicate complex technical findings and limitations clearly to senior and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable making pragmatic decisions within a fast-moving, scaling environment.
- Experience with financial data, alternative data, investment research, first-party data collection or AI-enabled research workflows would be advantageous.

The team functions like an internal startup, developing technology solutions that improve decision-making, productivity, and operational effectiveness across the business.
The organisation is seeking an entrepreneurial Technical Product Manager who thrives in ambiguous environments and enjoys taking ideas from concept through execution. This role sits at the intersection of product management, data, AI, software engineering, and business operations.
Rather than focusing primarily on roadmap administration or large-scale stakeholder management, this position emphasises identifying opportunities, validating solutions, partnering with technical leaders, and delivering measurable business impact.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Execution
- Identify and prioritise high-value opportunities across AI, data, and technology initiatives.
- Develop hypothesis-driven approaches to address complex business and operational challenges.
- Translate business objectives into practical technical solutions.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to evaluate feasibility, trade-offs, and implementation strategies.
- Define success metrics and drive measurable outcomes.
AI Platform Development
- Support the evolution of AI pilots and proof-of-concept projects into scalable platforms.
- Lead initiatives involving AI enablement, intelligent workflows, automation, and productivity enhancements.
- Establish frameworks for adoption tracking, impact measurement, and value realisation.
- Help mature experimental solutions into production-ready capabilities.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with senior business leaders, technical teams, and operational stakeholders.
- Act as a bridge between business objectives and technical execution.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to create organisational leverage.
- Influence decision-making without relying on formal authority.
Operational Excellence
- Drive initiatives independently in a fast-paced, lean environment.
- Build alignment among diverse stakeholders.
- Navigate uncertainty while maintaining focus on business outcomes.
- Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
Representative Projects
Examples of work may include:
- Building foundational data capabilities that support AI-driven applications and intelligent systems.
- Consolidating successful technology experiments into scalable internal platforms.
- Turning innovative prototypes into durable production solutions.
- Creating methodologies to measure AI adoption and business impact.
- Modernising operational workflows and decision-support processes using emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in Product Management, Technical Product Management, startup leadership, founder roles, or similar positions with substantial ownership.
- Strong understanding of data platforms, data architecture, and enterprise data flows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and understand technical trade-offs.
- Familiarity with software development practices and at least one programming language.
- Proven track record solving complex business problems in ambiguous environments.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience launching, building, or scaling impactful initiatives.
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building, launching, or scaling AI-enabled products.
- Familiarity with generative AI, machine learning, intelligent agents, automation, or modern data platforms.
- Startup founder or early-stage startup experience.
- Exposure to investment management, consulting, technology, or other analytical business environments.
- Understanding of how technology can create operational value and business impact at scale.
