THE COMPANY
Harnham is partnering with an online retailer / marketplace that is looking to add a Manager to their Data Science & AI team in London.
They have 1000 staff across offices in the UK, US and Europe, with the data team being small (circa 4-5 people). Working closely with the data director, you will join to manage a small (but growing) team, remaining hands-on you will help bring a more sophisticated approach to data science and machine learning across the business.
Key projects the team are working on currently:
- Dynamic pricing algorithms for the website
- Recommender systems
- NLP and classification
- Customer and marketing behaviour (LTV and segmentation)
A big focus for the next few months will be to make their current product pricing algorithms better!
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You must have:
- An MSc or Ph.D. in a STEM topic with a machine learning focus
- Experience of working with large volumes of data (preferably online data)
- Expert knowledge of Python
- Working knowledge of GCP (other cloud tools fine)
- Knowledge of pricing is required for this role
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Experience in leading teams of data scientists who are responsible for deploying machine learning into production.

They are seeking a Director of Customer Marketing to lead this transformation. This is a senior, high-impact role that spans across the business, combining strategy, execution, and innovation. Reporting to the Director of Customer & Marketing, you’ll shape customer value propositions, drive rapid growth in memberships, and bring a fresh perspective from outside traditional publishing.
Responsibilities

Build and articulate clear customer value propositions.

Develop and execute marketing campaigns focused on community, membership, and creator-led engagement.

Deliver both quick wins (e.g. subscription perks, commercial partnerships) and longer-term strategy.

Lead a team of 12 (including Heads of Growth Marketing and Retention).

Drive personalisation, segmentation, and data-led marketing initiatives.

Forge partnerships and perks to increase customer value.

Collaborate with Product, Editorial, and external digital partners.
Candidate Profile

Proven experience creating customer propositions and products.

Strong track record in community-driven and membership marketing.

Confident using data and marketing technology to drive decisions.

Skilled at evaluating and optimising channels for growth.

Excellent commercial networks for securing brand partnerships.

Resilient, innovative, and comfortable balancing rapid delivery with long-term strategy.

Able to challenge traditional ways of working and hold firm to strategy.

Ideally comes from outside the traditional publishing industry.
Package & Benefits
-
£130,000-£140,000 base salary ideally (flexible up to £170,000 for the right profile).

Hybrid working: 2 days a week in central London offices (Finsbury Square).
