Senior Data Engineer
Remote (within USA)
Circa $125,000 + 5% bonus

Play a key role in building/upgrading a data ecosystem for an accredited private schooling system that cater to students whose needs aren't met by traditional education systems e.g. learning disabilities, kids with trauma etc.

The team is growing and they are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to implement industry best practices and standards in data modeling, engineering and analytics.

This is the perfect role for someone with the right skills who is motivated by:

  1. Technical development - As they migrate to the cloud there will be opportunities to lean into data architecture and eventually machine learning. This is a high-impact role in a small team covering the entire Data life-cycle
  2. Leadership development - Mentoring up to 3 team-members from day 1 with future opportunity to lead the team

THE ROLE

  • Ingest data from various sources and build ETL pipelines using SQL and SSIS
  • Architect, model, and optimize data for Power BI reporting.
  • Migrate data infrastructure from on-prem SQL Server to Azure Cloud.
  • Implement industry best practices and standards in data engineering and analytics.
  • Support and mentor junior team members, helping them develop technical expertise.
  • Solve complex data problems while maintaining high availability and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with business teams to translate reporting needs into technical solutions.
  • Optimize SQL queries for performance and scalability using SQL Query Analyzer.
  • Support forecasting projects leveraging Python, with potential future ML applications.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5-9 years of experience in data engineering.
  • Degree in Computer Science strongly preferred (Maths or related field considered with experience)
  • Data Modeling: Extensive expertise in Snowflake and Star Schema methodologies.
  • SQL & Database Management: Experience with SQL Server including backups, recovery, storage, and compute considerations.
  • ETL Tools: Familiarity with SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
  • Power BI: Strong understanding of DAX and Power BI's semantic model.
  • Cloud Architecture: Experience with Azure migration and cloud data solutions.
  • Programming: Proficiency in Python for data processing and forecasting models.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to mentor and collaborate with a small, motivated team.
