  • Role: Senior Data Engineer
  • Location: Hybrid near Boston, MA (1 day per week) or fully remote (EST hours)

The Role

This is a hands-on Senior Data Engineering contract focused on building and supporting enterprise data pipelines that power reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making across the business.
You will own the ingestion layer for high-volume retail and operational data, helping move information from source systems into a modern cloud data platform. This role requires strong Snowflake expertise, deep experience with data ingestion, and the ability to work independently while partnering with business and technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of data engineering solutions, from source intake through production deployment.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable batch and near real-time ingestion pipelines.
  • Develop Snowflake-based data models and transformation frameworks.
  • Support analytics, reporting, forecasting, and operational decision-making across retail functions.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, validation, and governance standards are maintained.
  • Partner with stakeholders across technology, operations, merchandising, customer, and analytics teams.
  • Drive engineering best practices around testing, monitoring, documentation, and reliability.

Requirements: Must Have

  • 4+ years of professional Data Engineering experience with significant ownership of ingestion pipelines.
  • Extensive hands-on Snowflake experience in production environments.
  • Experience using Snowflake Cortex or other AI-assisted capabilities within Snowflake.
  • Strong SQL skills, including optimisation, validation logic, and large-scale data processing.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data platforms within retail, eCommerce, consumer products, logistics, supply chain, or similarly complex environments.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience using dbt for data transformation and modelling.
  • Python for data engineering, orchestration, and automation.
  • Experience supporting near real-time or event-driven data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes, Git, and Agile delivery methodologies.
