Role Level: Manager
Industry: Fintech / E-Commerce Risk & Fraud
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading technology organization building cutting-edge Machine Learning products that power critical, real-time e-commerce decisions at scale.
We are looking for a ML Engineering Manager to lead a team of high-performing engineers. In this role, you will operate in an environment where every challenge is a mix of experimentation, scalable code, and statistics. You will split your team's focus between continuous, near-term model improvements and high-impact, long-horizon innovation bets.
If you thrive in ambiguity, love digging into code and evaluation pipelines, and know how to empower engineers to do their best work, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead & Grow the Team
- People Leadership: Conduct regular 1:1s, provide continuous feedback, and support individual career development and skill growth.
- Culture: Foster a safe, transparent environment where open discussion is encouraged-including celebrating well-documented experimental results that didn't work.
- Hiring: Conduct technical and hiring manager interviews, train the team on interviewing techniques, and raise the bar for talent as the team grows.
2. Manage a Portfolio of Experiments
- Technical Mentorship: Partner with Tech Leads to pressure-test and refine ideas, ensuring the strongest hypotheses receive the compute and headcount needed.
- Rigor & Evaluation: Bring statistical rigor to experimental outcomes. Ensure offline results predict online behavior and evaluate performance beyond single test windows.
- Portfolio Management: Balance short-term delivery targets against multi-quarter research bets. Make clear calls on when to iterate, launch, or pull the plug on workstreams.
3. Partner & Drive Direction
- Stakeholder Alignment: Work directly with Risk partners to translate complex ML metrics into actionable business outcomes.
- Autonomy: Operate with high autonomy to set team directions based on measured performance data rather than rigid product backlogs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to improve feature systems, training pipelines, and experimentation tooling.
What You Bring
- Experience: 5+ years in ML, Data Science, or ML-adjacent software engineering, including 3+ years of direct people management experience.
- Technical Depth: Genuine depth in applied statistics, ML engineering, or software engineering-with working competence in the others. You should feel comfortable reading code and inspecting evaluation pipelines.
- Leadership Under Uncertainty: Proven ability to lead teams through ambiguous problem spaces, set clear directions, and adapt when data points in a new direction.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly in documents and present to executive leadership.
- High Bar for Quality: A strong commitment to correctness, reproducibility, and reliable production systems.
Why Apply?
- Drive high-impact innovation bets that shape the future of ML capabilities.
- Lead a collaborative, ground-up culture where those closest to the problems are empowered to solve them.
- Enjoy a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, evidence-driven engineering environment.

SENIOR DATA ENGINEER
Remote, US Based (California Excluded)
The Opportunity
Join a fast growing, physician led healthcare services company that brings primary care, behavioral health, geriatric care, palliative care, and chronic disease management directly into skilled nursing and assisted living communities across the country.
The Data and Technology team is the infrastructure behind how this company scales its care model. They pull data from EHRs, claims, labs, payers, and CMS into a unified platform that drives clinical insights, operational visibility, and value based care outcomes. This is a true greenfield build. The company is standing up a brand new AWS data warehouse and engineering environment from scratch as part of a broader core systems replacement, targeting a November go live.
This is a rare opportunity to be the senior technical voice shaping how the data architecture gets built. There is no legacy system to inherit and no technical debt to untangle. You will report directly to the Director of Data Architecture and Engineering and have real influence over how the environment is structured from day one.
What You’ll Do
- Architect and orchestrate data pipelines pulling from EHRs, claims systems, labs, payers, and CMS through APIs, FHIR, and HL7
- Design, build, and manage the AWS data warehouse running Snowflake from the ground up
- Build and orchestrate workflows using Apache Airflow
- Set up and structure AWS environments to support in house development
- Build infrastructure that powers BI, analytics, and reporting for clinical and operational teams
- Optimize data models, storage, and query performance across the platform
- Help define data governance standards, coding practices, and testing and alerting frameworks
- Partner closely with leadership to translate business and clinical goals into data architecture decisions
- Mentor and support other engineers as the team grows
Preferred Technologies and Experience
- AWS as the primary cloud platform
- Snowflake
- Apache Airflow
- Python and SQL
- dbt
- GitHub for version control
- Experience with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, EHRs, and claims is a strong plus, though not required
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and orchestrating data pipelines and data warehouses
- Deep, hands on AWS data engineering experience is non negotiable
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Proven experience with Apache Airflow for pipeline orchestration and monitoring
- Comfort working independently in a greenfield environment and making architecture decisions without heavy oversight
- Experience in a high growth or startup like environment, managing ambiguity and shifting priorities
- Healthcare or healthcare data experience is a plus, but strong AWS and data engineering fundamentals matter more
- Must be authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship needs
- Candidates based in California cannot be considered for this role
Why This Role
- Build a data warehouse and engineering environment completely from scratch with no legacy systems to maintain
- Work on a business critical, board visible project with a clear November go live
- Report directly to a Director of Data Architecture, with an Executive and CIO interview built into the process
- Join a company actively investing in scaling its data and AI capabilities rather than just maintaining what exists
- Take on meaningful ownership over architecture decisions from your first weeks
- Play a foundational role in the technology behind a rapidly growing healthcare services company
