Staff Software Engineer - Integrations
Location: NYC, SF Bay Area, Greater Seattle, Greater Toronto or Greater Vancouver
Work Type: Remote, initially, then one day per week on-site

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer to join our Integration Infrastructure team. This role uniquely combines deep technical leadership with hands-on integration engineering.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Architect Scalable Integration Infrastructure: Design, architect, and implement robust integration systems that achieve 5-nines accuracy and near real-time synchronization across distributed systems.
  • Develop Third-Party API Integrations: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of reliable connectors that integrate healthcare and ERP applications with our platform. Ensure these integrations are efficient, secure, and scalable to streamline critical business workflows.
  • Hands-On Coding & Code Reviews: Engage in active coding, conduct thorough code reviews, and optimize performance to set a high standard of technical excellence.
  • Establish Best Practices: Implement and enforce best practices for code quality, automated testing, observability, and performance monitoring to maintain exceptional system reliability.
  • Promote Automation & Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of automation and operational excellence, continually refining integration processes and tools.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with clients, customer success teams, and vendor technical teams to understand integration requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.
  • Troubleshooting & Ongoing Support: Provide direct support during and after integration deployments. Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensuring smooth and continuous operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, operations, and other engineering teams to align on architectural strategies and integration priorities.
  • Coach & Mentor: Guide and mentor fellow engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Drive Technical Vision: Contribute to setting technical standards, style guides, and integration patterns that ensure consistency and quality across the engineering organization.
  • Influence Product Roadmap: Act as a thought leader by introducing new tools, technologies, and practices that enhance our integration capabilities, while actively participating in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, etc.).

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong focus on building scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems.
  • Proven experience integrating multiple systems at scale-ideally including third-party API integrations for ERP and/or healthcare applications.
  • A demonstrated track record in driving technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Ruby, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures, containerization, and orchestration technologies.
  • Extensive experience with observability tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with API design and integration patterns (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, etc.), including secure, scalable connector development.
  • A passion for clean code, scalable architecture, and continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
