The Opportunity

The Director of AI (Higher Education) will lead the generative AI strategy and application delivery for the organization's Higher Education division. This is a high-impact leadership role that combines visionary strategy with hands-on technical oversight.

You'll partner closely with Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams to design and deploy production-grade AI applications that enhance learning outcomes and deliver personalized educational experiences at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the generative AI strategy for Higher Education.

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Product and Data teams to assess feasibility, prioritize projects, and deliver impactful AI solutions.

  • Manage and mentor a growing team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.

  • Oversee development of key AI applications, including personalized learning assistants, content summarization, and adaptive recommendation systems.

  • Uphold ethical and responsible AI practices - focusing on bias mitigation, accuracy, and data privacy.

  • Drive measurable results: accelerate AI project throughput, deliver scalable models, and strengthen internal AI capabilities.

About You

  • Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent experience) in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or related quantitative field.

  • 7-10+ years of industry experience progressing from hands-on data science to leadership.

  • Proven track record in shipping generative AI applications to production.

  • Strong collaborator who can balance technical vision with pragmatic delivery.

  • Experienced leading both people and projects in fast-moving, cross-functional environments.

  • Passion for education and using AI to make a social impact

Technical Expertise:

  • LLM application development (OpenAI API, LangChain, RAG, etc.)

  • Python and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)

  • MLOps and model orchestration best practices

  • Data architecture, evaluation frameworks, and scalable deployment
