A global technology organisation operating at the forefront of interactive digital experiences is expanding its advanced research division. They are looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to help drive an ambitious multi‑year initiative focused on developing next‑generation automated evaluation systems for complex virtual environments.

This division operates like an internal innovation lab - small, deeply technical, and empowered to explore ideas that shape the future of automated testing, simulation, and real‑time content quality. The team's mission is to build intelligent agents capable of autonomously navigating rich, dynamic digital worlds and detecting anomalies, glitches, and unexpected behaviours at scale.

This is a strategic, high‑ownership role where you will set technical direction, lead complex research efforts, and work across boundaries to turn cutting‑edge machine learning into real‑world impact.

What This Role Looks Like

As a Staff‑level engineer, you'll operate as a technical leader, research driver, and architect of end‑to‑end ML solutions. You'll work on problems that sit at the intersection of anomaly detection, computer vision, reinforcement learning, multimodal models, and simulation.
You'll be involved in:

  • Architecting advanced anomaly‑detection systems for visual, video, and multimodal data.
  • Driving the research agenda across self‑supervised learning, VLMs, and new CV methodologies.
  • Designing rapid prototypes, evaluating results, and scaling only the most promising approaches.
  • Shaping long‑term technical strategy in collaboration with research scientists, engineers, and domain experts.
  • Providing hands‑on mentorship and guidance to junior and mid‑level engineers (without line management).
  • Translating ambiguous research ideas into structured technical workstreams and deliverables.
  • Communicating complex concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical groups.

You'll be working on a problem space with global impact - the tooling you build will influence how interactive experiences are validated and improved for audiences numbering in the hundreds of millions.

What You Bring

You'll thrive here if you combine deep ML expertise with originality, curiosity, and the ability to guide others.
Ideal experience includes:

  • Strong background in anomaly detection, particularly for visual, video, or temporal signals.
  • Experience leading research or engineering efforts within a high‑impact project or product area.
  • A track record of technical leadership, architectural decision‑making, and mentoring.
  • Proficiency in computer vision, multimodal learning, or self‑supervised methods.
  • Solid research grounding - either through publications or through demonstrated applied R&D results.
  • Ability to work in environments where the roadmap is innovative, ambiguous and requires exploration.
  • A genuine interest in rich interactive digital worlds - whether through gaming, simulation, or related fields.
