Director of Analytics Engineering
US Remote (CST/EST preferred; PST candidates should be comfortable with early meetings)

We’re working with a well-established, global travel management company on a Director of Analytics Engineering hire. The business is mid-way through a genuine data transformation, and this person will own the strategy, architecture, and delivery of a global analytics platform already serving thousands of clients worldwide.
This isn’t a role for someone managing from a distance. My client needs a leader who has personally built and shipped data products, someone who’s architected pipelines, modeled semantic layers, and knows what production-grade analytics at scale actually takes.
What you’d own:
- The multi-year roadmap for a global analytics platform, spanning internal BI and external client reporting
- End-to-end delivery of analytics data products, from pipeline architecture through semantic modeling to reporting
- Embedded analytics applications woven into the product experience, not bolted-on dashboards
- Technical direction on warehouse design (Snowflake, Azure DataLake), semantic modeling (LookML, dbt), and BI strategy (Looker, Power BI)
- A team of analytics engineers working across the full stack
- Data governance, observability, and reliability across the platform
What we’re looking for:
- 10+ years in analytics engineering or data engineering, with 5+ years leading a team
- A track record of personally shipping production analytics products, both internal and client-facing
- Deep Snowflake experience, plus fluency across at least two major cloud providers
- Hands-on experience with Looker/LookML, dbt, and expert-level SQL
- Strong Python skills and real experience with data governance (RBAC, lineage, compliance)
- A diagnostic mindset, someone who digs into a slow query rather than delegating it blind
- Equally comfortable presenting to executives and talking tradeoffs with engineers
Nice to have: travel/hospitality/logistics experience, multi-tenant platform experience, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes), ML/AI exposure, an advanced quantitative degree.

Director of Analytics
Location: Remote – U.S.
Compensation: Up to $235K base + bonus
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing technology organization seeking a Director of Analytics to lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of a modern analytics platform supporting both internal business intelligence and customer-facing data products.
This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who combines analytics engineering depth with strong people leadership and executive presence. You will lead an established team of approximately 10-11 professionals while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and senior leadership.
This is not a traditional BI or reporting leadership position. The ideal candidate comes from a strong software, data, or analytics engineering background and has remained close enough to the technology to guide architecture, challenge technical decisions, and help shape the future of the platform.
What You’ll Own
-
Lead and develop an analytics organization of approximately 10-11 people across analytics engineering and reporting.
-
Define and execute the roadmap for the company’s analytics platform.
-
Own both internal analytics and externally facing B2B data products used directly by customers.
-
Lead modernization across data architecture, modeling, semantic layers, self-service analytics, and reporting.
-
Provide technical leadership around cloud data warehousing, transformation, analytics engineering, and BI architecture.
-
Partner closely with Product and Engineering to build analytics capabilities directly into customer experiences.
-
Establish scalable engineering practices around testing, version control, CI/CD, data quality, governance, and observability.
-
Help drive the evolution of AI-enabled and conversational analytics, including natural-language interaction with data.
-
Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing analytics and data engineering talent.
-
Present strategy, roadmaps, technical tradeoffs, and investment priorities to executive stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
-
10+ years of experience across analytics engineering, data engineering, software engineering, or related technical disciplines.
-
5+ years of leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing technical teams.
-
Experience leading teams of approximately 10+ people.
-
Strong engineering foundation with the ability to engage directly in architecture and technical discussions.
-
Experience building and delivering customer-facing analytics or data products, ideally within a B2B SaaS or technology environment.
-
Strong SQL and data modeling expertise.
-
Experience with modern cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake.
-
Experience with modern analytics and transformation platforms such as Looker/LookML and dbt, or comparable technologies.
-
Strong understanding of semantic modeling and scalable self-service analytics.
-
Familiarity with Python, Git-based development, CI/CD, and modern software development practices.
-
Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering organizations.
-
Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business strategy.
Particularly Relevant Experience
Candidates with experience in several of the following areas will be especially compelling:
-
B2B SaaS
-
Analytics Engineering leadership
-
Customer-facing or embedded analytics
-
Multi-tenant analytics platforms
-
Snowflake
-
Looker / LookML
-
dbt
-
Semantic layers and data modeling
-
Self-service analytics
-
Data products
-
AI-enabled analytics
-
Conversational or natural-language analytics
-
Cloud data architecture
The Profile
We are looking for someone who can operate effectively at both ends of the spectrum.
You should be comfortable presenting an analytics roadmap to executive leadership and partnering with Product on long-term strategy, but also willing and able to get into the details with engineers around architecture, SQL, data models, performance, or the semantic layer.
If your background is primarily traditional BI, dashboards, or reporting leadership without meaningful engineering depth, this is unlikely to be the right fit.
This is best suited for a builder and technical leader who has scaled teams and platforms while remaining close to the technology.
Why Consider It?
-
Fully remote opportunity within the U.S.
-
Lead an established analytics organization.
-
Own both internal analytics and customer-facing B2B data products.
-
Significant influence over the technical roadmap and future architecture.
-
Direct exposure to senior executive, Product, and Engineering leadership.
-
Opportunity to modernize and scale a major analytics platform.
-
Play a key role in the organization’s adoption of AI-powered and conversational analytics.
-
Strong opportunity for continued leadership growth as the organization expands.
