Data Governance Contractor (Senior Functional Data Analyst)

About the Role

A consulting firm is seeking a Data Governance Contractor who combines functional data strategy expertise with hands‑on Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities. This individual will help shape and mature the client’s data governance frameworks while also delivering meaningful BI outputs such as dashboards, models, and KPI reporting.

This is a strategic‑plus‑tactical role: you will work across business units, data engineering, and analytics stakeholders to elevate data quality, improve data lineage visibility, and strengthen enterprise‑wide data management.

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance & Strategy

• Create, refine, and maintain enterprise data governance standards and best practices.
• Lead the implementation of data stewardship and data ownership models.
• Drive data lineage, metadata management, and data quality initiatives.
• Assess current data maturity and recommend strategic improvements.

Business Intelligence & Analytics Execution

• Develop dashboards, data models, and reporting frameworks (Power BI/Tableau/etc.).
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Perform data quality analysis and root‑cause investigations.
• Partner with data engineering to validate pipelines, models, and schemas.

Stakeholder Communication & Enablement

• Act as liaison between technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Conduct training sessions on governance processes and BI best practices.
• Create clear documentation, including data dictionaries, glossaries, and governance artifacts.

Required Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Analysis, BI, or related functions.
• Experience designing or contributing to data governance frameworks.
• Strong BI tool proficiency (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.).
• Strong SQL and relational modeling experience.
• Experience with metadata management, lineage tools, and data quality remediation.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Familiarity with Collibra or Alation.
• Experience working in regulated or enterprise environments.

The Role

You’ll be joining a multidisciplinary AI/ML team responsible for developing the infrastructure and software that powers cutting-edge research and intelligent applications. The role focuses on backend development in Python, integrating AI components with data, compute, and frontend systems to create scalable, high-performance solutions.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing backend services for Python-based web applications (e.g., FastAPI).

• Integrating AI and ML components into production systems and APIs.

• Writing high-quality, well-tested, and well-documented code following best practices.

• Developing and monitoring metrics to improve system reliability and performance.

Contract Data Engineering Lead
£600/day – Inside IR35

A large UK organisation is in the middle of a major data platform transformation, moving from a legacy, third-party-managed environment to a modern, cloud-native setup. They are now looking for a Data Engineering Lead to support this transition and help stabilise and shape the data engineering function during a critical phase of change.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operations while also helping define how data engineering is delivered post-migration.

THE ROLE
As Data Engineering Lead, you will:

• Lead a small team of data engineers across contractors and permanent staff.

• Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring pipelines are stable and production-ready.

• Support the transition from an outsourced model to an internal engineering function.

Engineering Manager

Location: 3 days onsite (London)

The Organisation

Our client is a global aviation and logistics organisation, operating at significant scale with hundreds of aircraft and thousands of flights worldwide. They support large-scale retail and commercial cargo movements across international supply chains and are undergoing a major data platform transformation to support future growth.

The Role

This is a senior, strategic Lead Data Engineering Manager role focused on stabilising BAU operations and overseeing a large data warehouse migration.

The organisation is currently migrating from a legacy data platform to Snowflake, with delivery supported by a major systems integrator. This role sits on the client side and acts as the senior data engineering authority, ensuring designs are sound, pipelines are built correctly, and the migration progresses smoothly without disrupting day-to-day operations.

This is predominantly a leadership and strategy role, not a pure hands-on engineering position. You will provide technical oversight, architectural guidance, and strong stakeholder management, with light hands-on involvement where required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the migration from legacy data platforms to Snowflake

• Act as the senior data engineering point of contact across the programme

• Manage and guide a team of external contractors alongside a permanent engineer

• Ensure BAU data processes remain stable throughout the transition

• Review and validate data architecture, pipeline designs, and migration approaches

• Ensure migration pipelines are robust, scalable, and fit for long-term use

• Work closely with the Head of Data to define engineering strategy and delivery priorities
