The role

We are seeking a Data Manager (contract) to take ownership of data governance and drive data literacy across the organisation. This is a hands-on role suited to an all-rounder who can operate end-to-end and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Split of focus (approx.):

  • 50% Data Literacy (training, enablement, adoption)

  • 50% Data Stewardship / Governance / Data Integrity (standards, quality, ownership)

You will also provide structure and direction, including helping to prioritise work and guiding what another contractor should deliver.

Key responsibilities

Data governance / stewardship / integrity

  • Take ownership of governance fundamentals: standards, definitions, ownership, stewardship

  • Improve data integrity and quality practices (controls, checks, issue management, escalation routes)

  • Assess what is already in place and introduce pragmatic improvements

Data literacy (training and enablement)

  • Create and deliver data literacy training (e.g., workshops, presentations, playbooks)

  • Develop reusable enablement materials, including scripts/storyboards for short internal videos where required

  • Improve consistency of data usage by partnering with business teams and embedding good practices

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience owning data governance and/or data stewardship in a delivery-focused environment

  • Strong evidence of data literacy work: you have created and delivered training (sessions, decks, guidance, internal comms, videos)

  • Comfortable working in a small data team where you need to be hands-on and pragmatic

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence without heavy process

  • Delivery mindset: able to assess → prioritise → implement → embed improvements
