PCB Manufacturing Engineer - Contract-to-Hire Position

Company Overview

Our client is a specialized PCB manufacturing company serving critical customers in the aerospace and defense sectors. With a strategic domestic presence in the United States, they focus on serving high-security clients with stringent ITAR compliance requirements who cannot move manufacturing offshore.

The company maintains a competitive advantage by handling complex, cutting-edge designs for customers requiring the highest levels of security and quality. They have grown through strategic acquisitions and are currently modernizing and standardizing their manufacturing processes across multiple facilities.

The organization is committed to innovation in PCB manufacturing technology, investing in advanced machinery and automation systems while maintaining flexibility to handle dynamic customer requirements and custom manufacturing challenges.

Team Context

The Engineering team is a collaborative group of professionals distributed across multiple locations and time zones. The team operates in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and problem-solving are essential, frequently handling urgent operational challenges and critical customer deliveries.

The team bridges the gap between legacy manufacturing systems and modern automation, ensuring that both established and newly acquired machinery can efficiently handle diverse and complex PCB designs. With plans for scaling, the team values rapid collaboration and continuous learning.

Role Overview

We are seeking a PCB Manufacturing Engineer for a contract-to-hire position to join our client's engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects in a specialized manufacturing environment serving demanding customers in aerospace and defense.

The ideal candidate will combine PCB manufacturing knowledge with scripting and automation capabilities to help modernize manufacturing processes and solve complex technical challenges in a fully remote capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate manufacturing processes, reduce manual work, and enable systems to handle diverse PCB designs and specifications
  • System Integration & Optimization: Work with various manufacturing software systems to ensure optimal performance, including troubleshooting equipment integration issues and performing root cause analysis when systems don't work with specific designs
  • Legacy System Support: Maintain and upgrade existing automation scripts while transitioning systems to modern Python-based solutions
  • Manufacturing Process Optimization: Support ongoing initiatives to standardize and optimize manufacturing processes, moving from disparate systems to unified, best-practice implementations
  • Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Collaborate with distributed teams to address urgent manufacturing challenges and implement solutions that work across both legacy and modern systems
  • Technical Documentation: Document processes, solutions, and system integrations to support knowledge sharing across the organization

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience with PCB fabrication processes and manufacturing constraints
  • Strong Python scripting skills with experience in process automation or system integration
  • U.S. Citizenship or Green Card holder due to ITAR Compliance
  • Understanding of how design decisions impact manufacturability and production processes

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python for automation and process control
  • Experience with manufacturing software systems and equipment integration
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication processes (etching, drilling, plating, assembly, etc.)
  • Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles
  • Familiarity with manufacturing data flow and system communication

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Node.js and cloud platforms
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing
  • Knowledge of manufacturing software platforms
  • Experience with IoT systems and data collection
