Reports to: Head of Commercial Insights
This is a brilliant opportunity to join a fast‑scaling marketplace in the education sector. With a brand‑new Head of Commercial Insights in place, the business is rebuilding its entire data stack – from pipelines to dashboards to the semantic layer – and this hire will play a critical role in shaping how analytics operates moving forward.
If you enjoy a mix of BI development, data modelling, product analysis, and commercial partnering, this role gives you autonomy, impact, and the chance to help define what “good” looks like inside a data‑hungry organisation.
Where you fit
You’ll be the go‑to analyst for building the foundations of reporting and insight. Expect a blend of hands‑on SQL modelling, BI development, stakeholder discovery, and behavioural analysis.
The company is small (under 100 people), the appetite for data is huge, and you’ll sit at the centre of decision-making across product, commercial, and operations.
What you’ll be doing
Core analytics + modelling
- Build data models (SQL, star schemas, semantic-layer-ready tables).
- Work with GCP + dbt pipelines (with support from a dedicated data engineer).
- Turn messy spreadsheets into clean, reliable, automated reporting.
BI development
- Build dashboards in Omni.
- Define the KPIs that matter, not just what stakeholders ask for.
Product & commercial insight
- Analyse behaviour across a two-sided marketplace.
- Look at retention, lifetime value, drop‑off patterns, and behavioural red flags.
- Do exploratory ad‑hoc analysis to uncover trends and opportunities.
Stakeholder partnership
- Work directly with the Head of Commercial Insights and senior leaders.
- Gather requirements, challenge assumptions, and translate business questions into data logic.
- Balance building, analysis, and advising the business (roughly 2/3 build, 1/3 insight).
What you bring
Must‑haves
- 3-5 years’ experience across BI / product analytics / commercial analytics.
- Strong SQL (modelling, joins, transformations).
- Experience with 2+ BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI, etc.).
- Understanding of data modelling (star schemas, semantic layers).
- Strong communication skills and ability to bridge business → data.
- Adaptable mindset – someone who can pick things up fast and challenge product/commercial thinking.
Nice‑to‑haves
- Experience in marketplaces, EdTech, consumer apps, or retention‑focused products.
- Familiarity with GCP/dbt pipelines.
- Behavioural / lifecycle analytics experience.
Why this role
- Shape the data foundations of a scaling company.
- Huge variety: modelling, dashboarding, product analytics, commercial insight.
- Modern BI stack (Omni)
- Fully remote with occasional team days in Sheffield (all paid).
- Real ownership in a business that genuinely wants data.
