Research Director - Ad Effectiveness
London or Newcastle (Hybrid, typically 1 day per week in office)
£75,000-£85,000 + benefits

If you're passionate about helping brands truly understand what makes advertising work - and you're looking for an opportunity to shape an agency's future direction - this could be a great next step.

This independent insights agency has built a strong reputation for using data, behavioural science, and creative storytelling to decode how people engage with brands and media. Their clients include some of the UK's biggest entertainment and media names, and they're known for their innovative approach to measuring ad and media effectiveness - from biometrics and emotion tracking to cross-media analysis.

The agency is now looking for a Research Director to lead their Ad Effectiveness and Media Research practice. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee project delivery, guide methodology, and drive growth - both through developing new client relationships and evolving the agency's strategic offering.

You'll be:

  • Leading the design and delivery of ad effectiveness and media measurement programmes across TV/AV, digital, and cross-media campaigns.

  • Setting the vision for how the agency approaches advertising research - whether that's cross-media attribution, behavioural and emotional coding, or integrating new AI and biometric methods.

  • Managing and mentoring a team of experienced researchers, maintaining high standards of insight, storytelling, and client service.

  • Playing a key part in the agency's leadership team, partnering closely with senior stakeholders to define commercial and research strategy.

What you'll bring:

  • Deep expertise in ad effectiveness or media measurement, with a track record across multiple platforms.

  • Strong leadership experience - confident managing a team of 6-8 researchers.

  • Excellent client management and consulting skills; comfortable leading pitches, shaping briefs, and influencing senior stakeholders.

  • A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on delivery - you're as comfortable in the data as you are in the boardroom.

  • Background in an insights agency or similar environment where agility, curiosity, and creativity are key.

The culture is collaborative, flexible, and built around trust. You'll typically spend one day a week in either the London or Newcastle office, with plenty of flexibility for remote working.

Salary is £75,000-£85,000 (non-negotiable) plus standard benefits.

If you're ready to take ownership of a growing ad effectiveness practice - in a place that values ideas, experimentation, and thoughtful leadership - this role could be an excellent fit.
