We are currently working with a retail organisation to appoint an experienced Data Lead to head up a growing data and machine learning function.

The Role

The Data Lead will:

The Role

As Customer Selections and Analytics Team Lead, you’ll lead the planning and delivery of all customer selections and campaign evaluation activities. You’ll manage a team of six SQL specialists who build automated processes for multi-channel campaigns, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs.

This is a hands-on leadership role with strong stakeholder management focus. You’ll work across Financial Services, Personal Lines, and Commercial Lines, translating campaign briefs into technical requirements and ensuring seamless delivery across DM, email, and digital channels.

You’ll collaborate with campaign analytics and A/B testing specialists, helping design experiments and evaluate ROI. The role involves supporting transformation projects including migration to a new customer data platform and rollout of a new CRM tool (Dotdigital).

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Management

  • Work with stakeholders to understand campaign plans, continuously creating and updating plans for all selections and evaluation
  • Prioritise work, communicating effectively with the team and ensuring campaigns are delivered on time to quality standards
  • Become subject matter expert for campaign brief and evaluation processes

Campaign Delivery & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee customer selections and campaign evaluation, ensuring campaigns use relevant data and advanced statistical techniques
  • Translate briefs into technical requirements, selecting target audiences based on behavioural data
  • Join data from multiple sources (CRM, transactional systems, engagement events) and use APIs to connect to marketing automation platforms
  • Design and implement QA processes ensuring regulatory requirements are met

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, manage, motivate and develop six direct reports
  • Lead daily scrums, ensuring team members are comfortable with pipelines and escalating issues
  • Work with SMEs to ensure clear view of required skills with development plans in place

Data & Insight Strategy

  • Build detailed understanding across datasets to become SME for sourcing, analysing and delivering customer data

Projects & Continuous Improvement

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Advanced SQL experience (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)-hands-on technical leadership role where SQL is used daily
  • Previous line management experience-formal or informal leadership of analysts or campaign specialists
  • Strong experience in customer selections, audience targeting or campaign analysis
  • Experience planning and delivering campaigns and evaluation across multiple channels
  • Strong experience providing data insights to aid strategic decision-making with clear stakeholder communication
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview)
  • Ability to coach and guide others in complex subject matter
