Job Opportunity: Lead Data Scientist, Data & Systems (Marketing Data Scientist)
Location: Remote / Flexible

Are you ready to make a real impact in the world of health and wellness with cutting-edge microbiome science? We are a fast-growing startup focused on developing innovative interventions targeting the human microbiome to improve the lives of patients suffering from a variety of diseases. We're committed to transforming gut health through products that are both scientifically backed and clinically proven to be more effective than the competition.

We're looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of data-driven decision making, shaping marketing strategies, and optimizing how we use data to drive growth.

About the Role

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be the key driver in using data to optimize our marketing strategies, predict customer behavior, and measure the efficacy of our marketing campaigns. With a solid data infrastructure in place, your role will be hands-on and end-to-end, taking ownership of building predictive models, managing data pipelines, and deriving actionable insights that will inform business decisions.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, data engineering, and product development, while working directly with the leadership team to drive strategic initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, data-rich environment and wants to shape the future of consumer health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Predictive Modeling & Analysis: Build and productionalize models to predict demand, optimize supply matching, and enhance customer lifetime value (LTV).
  • A/B & Experimentation: Own the strategy and execution of A/B testing, multivariate testing, and incrementality tests across digital marketing channels.
  • Marketing Optimization: Provide insights into ad spend effectiveness, creative testing, and customer acquisition strategies. Analyze and optimize the distribution of marketing campaigns across multiple platforms (Meta, direct mail, etc.).
  • Customer Insights: Dive into customer data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can drive improved retention, cross-selling opportunities, and overall product-market fit.
  • Strategic Thinking: Collaborate with senior leadership to define long-term business goals, using data to inform decisions around product marketing, pricing strategies, and customer acquisition.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time, and work cross-functionally to keep teams aligned and accountable.
  • Communication & Reporting: Present findings and data-backed recommendations to executive teams, ensuring that complex data is communicated clearly and aligned with business objectives.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science or marketing analytics, ideally with experience in consumer-facing companies or products.
  • Skills: Strong technical background with proficiency in Python, ETL processes, Tableau, and cloud-based platforms like AWS or Snowflake. You should also be comfortable using modern data tools like DBT and Fivetran.
  • Marketing Acumen: Solid experience in marketing analytics, including understanding of customer acquisition, retention, and lifecycle management. Experience in subscription models and consumer packaged goods (CPG) or life sciences is a major plus.
  • Data-Driven & Business-Oriented: Ability to build and deploy models, while also contextualizing the results within a broader business strategy. You should have a keen understanding of how data can influence key business decisions and drive growth.
  • Mindset: You bring curiosity, a growth mindset, and a positive attitude to problem-solving in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Education: Strong technical foundation in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computer science). An MBA or equivalent business experience is a plus, especially when paired with technical expertise.

Why Join Us?

  • Impact: You will be contributing directly to improving the lives of people around the world through groundbreaking microbiome science.
  • Autonomy: This is a high-impact, independent role where you'll have the freedom to shape your work and make critical decisions.
  • Growth: We're a fast-growing startup with a product-market fit and ample opportunities for you to define the future of our data and marketing strategy.
  • Collaboration: Work with a team of passionate, data-driven scientists and executives who are deeply embedded in data and value its potential.
