Are you an experienced Computer Vision Engineer who is interested in working on cutting edge projects that will be taken to market next year?

THE COMPANY:

As a Computer Vision Engineer, you will be working for an exciting start-up as the technical lead in computer vision. The team is growing so you will have the opportunity for good career progression into a leadership position.

THE ROLE:

The role of Computer Vision Engineer involves researching and developing new cutting-edge projects around computer vision and image tracking, as well as optimisation and development of current models

In specific, you can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Leading the model development and implementation
  • Experimentation, research, and development using the latest computer vision techniques and state of the art sensor tracking/ object tracking
  • Improving and optimisation of in house models
  • Long term building out the computer vision team

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

The successful Computer Vision Engineer will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to Master's level in a STEM degree - Computer Vision
  • Extensive hands-on experience in machine learning/ deep learning/ computer vision/ object tracking

THE BENEFITS:

The successful Computer Vision Engineer will receive a salary dependent on experience of up to £50,000.

What’s Keeping Women Out Of Data Science?

Data Science, the extraction of data to provide meaningful knowledge and insight, is experiencing a surge in growth within Data & Analytics. It is a fast-growing specialism, and talent in this area is in demand, with there being a 650 per cent increase in data science jobs since 2012. Simply put, pretty soon Data Science is going to play a fundamental role in every industry across the globe. Organisations have to adapt and make use of a range of Data Science tools and techniques or they will simply be forced out of business. LinkedIn recognised in their Emerging Jobs report that the role of a Data Scientist sits in the top three in the US, citing significant advancements in the emphasis on using data for this growth. Comparatively in the UK, this role lands within the top 10 at number seven.  Yet, our research tells us that in the UK, 25 per cent of female professionals work within Data Science, with this number dipping to just 20 per cent in the US. So, how can we support more women to enter the specialism? Encourage access to opportunities  Organisations need to continue to hire highly skilled technical talent to keep up with the growth that we are witnessing in the Data Science specialism. Yet, time and time again, working in Data Science can be seen to be an unattractive career proposition – in particular to women. To counteract this, business leaders need to make the role and rewards of becoming a Data Scientist visible within their organisation. Showcasing the range of projects and campaigns that are available, as well as providing opportunities for women to accelerate their careers and follow a pathway that suits them is critical. Education of STEM roles from a young age In order to see more women moving into roles within Data Science, industry leaders from within STEM fields need to take control and lead the way in educating women on the array of opportunities available. Through supporting, organising or hosting workshops, webinars and conferences, organisations can introduce women at entry-level to what careers in Data Science actually look like. This week for example in the UK, we’re currently in the middle of British Science Week. It is initiatives like these that build upon the education that is needed to promote roles in technical fields. Building up communities In the past year, we’ve all come to rely on our connections to provide insight and support during this period of uncertainty and change. This should be a continued focus moving forwards, building communities, networking and sharing knowledge in order to create an informed, educated and engaged workforce that attracts (and retains) female professionals. Within female-focused networks and groups, organisations can support women in advancing their careers, advocating for themselves and acting as a platform to showcase the opportunities that are available to women looking to move into a role in Data & Analytics. The consequence of ignoring these actions is a lack of diversity. We know that diverse teams perform better, and so welcoming in and making the Data Science specialism an attractive career consideration for women is critical. As the industry continues to advance and demand for skilled professionals grows, there will be plenty of opportunity for top talent to make their mark. Data Science For Business Decision Making

All strong and successful businesses are built and run upon well-informed decision-making, which derive from a mix of leader experience, industry knowledge and, more recently, the regular implementation and use of advanced Data Science teams.  While the use of data has been around for many years, it’s hard to believe that it is only in the last five years or so that we have seen the adoption of such technology and skills really take off. Five years ago, the importance and demand for Data Scientists sat at a very meagre 17 per cent, whereas in 2019, we saw exponential growth of over 40 per cent – a number that is expected to continue growing as we move forward.  Within Data & Analytics, Data Science is a crucial arm within many businesses of all shapes and sizes. Through the collection and analysis of certain datasets, Data Science teams can delve into an organisation’s pain points, any potential obstacles and future predictions; crucial elements which, if looked at and planned for in advance, can be the making of a business.  So, how else can Data Science influence the decision-making process and make a positive impact on a business and its bottom line? The removal of bias and the increase of accuracy As humans we are innately susceptible to bias, conscious and unconscious, and this can be a hindrance on our ability to make informed yet impartial decisions. By relying solely on facts and figures instead of our own opinions, we are not only removing bias, but we are in turn making the decision-making process more accurate.  Accuracy within decision-making will remove the potential risk of mistakes and the need to re-do tasks, therefore saving precious time, resource and money, unequivocally a benefit for any business’s bottom line.  Efficiency There are elements of all businesses that require trial and error for example, hiring practices. People who look great on paper and perform exceptionally well in first interview may turn out to be utterly the wrong fit six months down the line. However,  collecting and recording data of those employees who do fit well into the business, compared to those who don’t, can help to reduce the chance of choosing the wrong candidate. This in turn improves staff retention rates, helps create a positive work culture and, of course, positively impacts profitability.  Considering the cost for hiring one person for a company is around £3,000, Data Science is of huge benefit to any company, large or small, in reducing the risk of high staff turnover.  Mitigating risk All businesses at some point in their lifetime will come up against potential obstacles and risks that, if not managed properly, can be potentially lethal. The implementation of Data Science will allow senior leaders to learn from past mistakes and create evidence-based plans to better tackle, or completely avoid, similar problems in the future.  This could be for either organisational risk or strategic risk, both of which can be extremely damaging if not prepared for. Organisational risk entails problems occurring within daily business tasks such as fraud, data loss, equipment and IT issues and staff resignations. Strategic risk relates to events that cannot be planned for in advance; those sudden and unforeseeable changes - a great example being the current COVID-19 pandemic.  However, with both risk groups, Data Scientists can help to mitigate these risks through learnings and observations made from reams of previous data, as well as real-time intelligence. This allows senior leaders to act fast where needed, and plan where possible.  Data & Analytics, and especially Data Science, has been, and will continue to be, a key driver in the evolution of many industries worldwide. As we move forward, we will undoubtedly see an even larger uptake of the available technologies as business leaders everywhere begin to see the influential value of data-driven decision-making.
